Fundraising

With training rides starting up this coming weekend, both Kevin and I have started our fund raising activities. It's definitely a tough task raising the $2,000 minimum that is required to participate in the bike rally, but it's well worth it.

Last year we were both lucky to have the support of many great people who helped us meet our goals. We're hoping that this year will be no different.

If you've not done so yet, why not take a moment to participate in this great event by sponsoring one of us. The funds raise support a fantastic cause! Last year we cycled nearly 4,500 km combined when you sum up the training rides and the trip from Toronto to Montreal itself - with that amount of cycling, it's clear that we both support the Bike Rally, and we hope we can count on you to do the same!

Hey guys,

It's George from last years ride. I'm new to blogging and was wondering if you could tell me how you did your rides page. Are you able to manage the directory structure? And how did you create the table. Is it HTML? Does blogger allow you to make your own html pages? Let me know. Thanks. I want to put up a training schedule as well.

Hey George,

You can't manage the directory structure, but you can include HTML directly in any post - so yes, the tables are HTML tables.

The training logs are just regular posts, but in order to have them not show up as such, I created a Javascript hack in the template that checks the ID number of the page, and only displays it if it's not one of these "special" posts. If you want to see how that works, just view the page source and look for the function "maybe_write" and references thereto.

An alternative would be to get an account at googlepages.com. You could use a similar template to create your training log, or even just upload an HTML file, and then you can just link to it from your blog.

Where does the page ID come from and how to I get the HTML code for the template?

If you go to the comments page for any post, you'll see in the URL &postID=nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn, and that's the post/page ID. It probably also shows up when you're editing a post.

I will e-mail our template to you.
